    Thailand Travel and Transport

On of the great advantages of Thailand travel is that it works out much like the rest of the country, great value for money. Thailand must be one of the cheapest countries for bus travel in the world and train travel is equally well priced. In recent years there has been many new budget airlines offering domestic flights within the country so the price to fly to the major destinations is decreasing all the time with the extra competition; and now where many people travelling Thailand on a budget would usually take the bus or train they have started to take advantage of Thailand's cheap air travel.

    Travel and transport Thailand:

Travel in Thailand is fun! Like travelling through any foreign country if time allows then it's nice to be able to skip using flights and travel slowly, enjoying the countryside at a lazy pace whilst seeing parts of the country that many people will miss when travelling by air. Thailand bus and train travel certainly gives you much more chance to meet the locals that do not work in any of the tourist sectors, the normal Thai people travelling Thailand to find work or visit family, or perhaps just taking a short break away themselves during one of Thailand's many national holidays.

Within Thailand 's provinces and cities there are many ways to travel that are often unique to certain areas whether it be travelling by boat on the Chao Phraya River Express Boats, getting caught in Bangkok 's notorious traffic in a taxi or avoiding it by using the canal boats or its modern BTS sky train and metro subway system. You can try one of Thailand's traditional methods of travel, be it the famous Tuk Tuk's on a wild night drive to the next party in Pattaya or a relaxing slow journey on a samlor (cycle rickshaw) through some of North East Thailand's Issan provinces; scoot around an island, beach hopping on a Thai long tail boat or travel the length of the country from top to bottom on the extensive Thailand railway system with the overnight sleeper trains.

For a real genuine feel of Thailand then you have to remember it's not just the destination that is important, but also the travel it took to get there. Many a story that a visitor to Thailand will recount to friends back home is not just about the beaches or the spicy foods, but winding bus routes through Southern Thailand, the overnight train journeys that took them just a boats trip away from tropical paradise islands, breakneck speed Taxi drivers that managed to get them to the airport on time when they woke up too late one morning or even the amazement of descending into Koh Samui's lush tropical garden airport after a short one hour flight from bustling Bangkok.

In Thailand there are many travel agents that can help you book tickets whether you wish to travel by air, rail or road, and many of the hotels will often have this pre booking service as well. It is easier to travel this way and of course you need to pay a little extra on each ticket for the service, though this may be less than it costs you to go and buy the ticket anyway if you need to get it a few days before you travel. It is worth having a good knowledge of the prices for travel around Thailand though to make sure you are not getting overcharged for this service.

Many travellers especially when booking a ticket that can be purchased a few hours before the journey choose to buy a ticket at the bus, train or airport terminal. This works out cheaper that buying the ticket from a travel agent and does add a certain independence to Thailand travel which for many is all part of the holiday experience and we hope our travel guide can help you with our directories, timetables and advice on travel within the Kingdom.
