Thailand's reputation for night life is legendary, and deservedly so, as despite recent earlier closing times it's still one of the best places in Asia to party. It is the home of Bangkok, the sin city of Asia, and the now world famous wild full moon parties taking place every month on The Southern Thailand island of Koh Phang nan.
The Thai's have firm beliefs that if it is not ‘sanook’ (fun/enjoyable) then don’t do it, and to enjoy life is the true reason for it. This leads to a society of fun loving people and a night out on the town to a Thai night club is a highlight of Thailand's night life.
A trip to Thailand will bring you home to people making jokes about the Lady boys and its true there are a lot of lady boys and some can be very beautiful and some can be very frightening! Lady boys are often found working in the cabaret shows, as well as clubs and bars of any major tourist destination, mainly Bangkok and Pattaya. Lady boys are more accepted in Thailand than they are in Western society, and there are numerous famous lady boy singers, performers and models in Thailand, and they even have there own beauty pageant, Miss Tiffany.
Thailand's night life is known for its Thai bar girl scene, because like it or not, this is one of the reasons that Thailand first became a major tourist destination. Beer bars and the bar girls started in the 1960s as a way of supplying G.I.s from Vietnam some extra company on there R and R in Thailand, and quickly developed into a thriving business that virtually built Pattaya City. The Thai bar girl scene is still going strong now and as well as the massive red light district which is Pattaya; there is also lots of bar girls on Koh Samui, Phuket and Bangkok.
If bar girls are not your thing, then don't worry, Thailand has plenty more to offer for all kinds of night time people. You can go crazy with young backpackers from all over the world at the notorious Koh Phang nan full moon parties, assault your ears with booming techno in a Koh Samui nightclub, relax by the river enjoying live music and authentic Thai food in Chiang Mai, enjoy an eye opening lady boy cabaret show in Koh Samui, eat delicious seafood at one of Phuket's beachside restaurant / bars, or indulge in a good cigar, fine drinks and all the luxuries of a jazz bar in Bangkok.
