Khao Takiab (or Takieb) is a moo baan (village) in the Amphur (district) of Hua Hin about 10km south of Hua Hin town. It gets its name from the hill at the south end of the beach called Khao Takiab which means 'Chopstick Mountain'. Khao Takiab is probably very similar to what Hua Hin was like many many years ago, although it is becoming more like it's larger neighbour every year. Whilst still retaining it's village charm Khao Takiab has all the amenities any holiday maker needs to enjoy themselves.
There are some large hotels and resorts in Khao Takiab including the 5 star Hyatt Hotel the Thai styled Wora Bura Resort and the modern boutique The Rock. Khao Takieb has some great seafood restaurants at probably the cheapest prices found in Hua Hin as well as the higher end restaurants such as 'Let's Sea' seafood restaurant. For nightlife Khao Takieb is pretty quiet but does have a few bars and the Cicada market on the weekends.
Khao Takiab is also home to a Safari park where you can go on elephant rides, go paint-balling and drive ATV's (but not all at the same time).
Getting to Khao Takiab
Khao Takiab is about 10km from Hua Hin town center and takes about 10 mins in a car or on a motorbike.
Tuk tuks, motorbike taxis and taxis will take you to Khao Takiab, make sure you agree on a price before you go to avoid any surprises.
There is a bus service (songthaews) which runs from Hua Hin Chat Chai Market to Khao Takiab every 20 minutes from 6am - 5pm. The buses are green pick-up trucks with a covered rear end with benches to sit on or you can hang off the railings on the back. The buses cost maxium 20 baht for the entire journey from Chat Chai Market to Khao Takiab. You can catch the bus from anywhere along the Phetchkasem Road, just flag the bus down and climb in the back. You pay when you alight.
