Shopping in Phuket is a treat for anyone, with a large range of goods from all corners of Thailand being shipped here for sale, imported brand name goods and food, computer and electrical goods. Most of the shopping in Phuket is to be done in the main areas of Phuket City and Patong where you will find many street vendors as well as the large air conditioned malls and supermarkets.

The main department stores in Phuket are Oceans Plaza, Oceans department store, Ocean Shopping Mall, Phuket Shopping Center and Robinsons which sell a variety of goods catering more towards residents in Phuket; for food and grocery shopping then Phuket provides the ever present Lotus Tesco and Big C supermarkets.

Phuket is home to several open air markets, again mainly in Patong and Phuket City but they can also be found in Kata and on the Phang Nga Road. These markets are ideal for picking up cheap beach ware, including fake sunglasses, sarongs and bikinis as well as budget Thai handicrafts and souvenirs.

You can also find better quality shops for Thai handicrafts and antiques in Phuket in The Courtyard, JungCeylon and at the Canal Village. At these Phuket shopping centres you will also find fine examples of some of Phuket’s more popular shopping goods such as pewter ware, Thai silks, teak wood carvings, jewellery and of pearls which are farmed from nearby. Prices can be high but bargains are easily found especially if you have some knowledge about the goods you are shopping for, discounts are always available, not only on the street but in the higher end shops as well so don’t be afraid to ask.
