    Pattaya Travel and Transport

Pattaya has a variety of transport methods when you are in the City and its convenient location close to Bangkok means it’s easy to travel to and from Pattaya as well. The usual motorbike taxis and tuk tuks are in place but the most popular type of transport in Pattaya is the ‘Baht Bus’, very similar in design and use to the songteaw that you will see in other parts of Thailand..

    Baht Bus

The Baht Bus is a converted truck with seats on either side and travels the major routes of passengers stopping and picking up customers when they flag it down from the side of the road. Journey cost starts at 10-20 baht for the Baht Buses and if you do not already know the price then check with the driver first.

    Motorbike and Car Rental

Motorbikes, cars and jeeps are all available for rent in Pattaya, and though you are required to have an international driver’s license to hire them you will rarely find yourself being asked for one. Remember though you may be on holiday you still need to drive safely; many traffic accidents are caused every year in Pattaya City due to drink driving, and even if the accident is only minor and nobody is injured you will still have to pay for any damages to the rented vehicle and whatever you may have crashed into. Please ensure you always wear a helmet if riding a motorbike, for safety reasons and because the police may stop you and fine you a few hundred baht.

    Bus and Train Travel

You can travel to and from Pattaya easily and quickly to Bangkok by road or rail. Air con buses leave Pattaya’s main bus station for Bangkok every 30 minutes are destined for either the Mochit (Northern) Bus Terminal or the Eastern Bus Terminal in Sukhumvit Soi Ekami. Trains travel from Pattaya to Bangkok once a day and actually take a little longer than the buses but it’s certainly a cheap and comfortable way to travel, costing around 40 baht for the trip.

    Pattaya Airport

Though many regular visitors do not realise it there is an airport in Pattaya, albeit a small one that operates flights to and from Koh Samui. For the majority of people they depart at Bangkok International Airport and then take the road to Pattaya; there is a very reasonably priced airport bus service that costs 200 baht per trip. Taxis can be picked up going direct from Bangkok International Airport to Pattaya as well though for the added comfort it’ll cost you around 1500.
