Pattaya on the East coast of Thailand, just a couple of hours drive from Bangkok was the first tourist resort in Thailand and it follows that it was also the first place that offered recreational scuba diving. Offering numerous dive sites including the Hardeep wreck and Bremen wreck dive sites it is still one of the most popular places in Thailand for scuba divers.
As well as wreck sites and technical diving Pattaya and the surrounding area offers good dive sites for learner divers such as Koh Larn and Koh Sak, and thousands of people every year come to study and complete their PADI Open Water Diver Certification, PADI Advanced Open Water, PADI Rescue Diver, PADI Divemaster and PADI Instructor courses.
Pattaya unlike many Thailand dive spots is available for suba diving year round, though preferable conditions are between November and May. The main scuba diving locations of Pattaya are broken into three areas simply called, the "Far Islands" the "Near Islands" and Samaesan. The Near Islands are located about an hour away from Pattaya's coastline and consist of three islands, Koh Krok, Koh Sak and Koh Larn. The Far islands located about 15 kms from the shore are made up of five islands Koh Rin, Koh Man Wichai, Koh Hu Chang, Koh Klung Badan and Koh Phai which is home to the Khram Wreck. Samesan's main dive site is the Hardeep Ship Wreck but noteworthy also are Koh Chan and Koh Chuang. Lying off Sattahip is a couple of other excellent dive sites, Submarine Rock and the Petchburi Bremen Ship Wreck.
