In and Around Krabi
Krabi is one of the most beautiful areas of Thailand, it's beaches world renowned for their white sands and turquoise sea. Had Railey is often referred to as one of the best beaches in Thailand and is actually divided into two beaches, Had Railey East and Had Railey West. Had Tham Phra Nang sites between them as is also one of the contenders for the prettiest beach in the area. Further north along the coast is another Krabi treat, the ever popular Ao Nang, a long bay from which you can travel direct to Koh Phi Phi.
Travel by boat is the best way to reach a lot of the top destinations around Krabi, whether you are travelling to the provinces of Phang Nga or Trang that sit either side of Krabi or the local beaches in the area. Of course you need to take a boat to the nearby islands; the world famous Koh Phi Phi and increasingly popular Koh Lanta National Park sit out in the Andaman Sea just a stones throw away from Krabi. Backing onto Krabi is the province of Surat Thani that takes you all the way across the Gulf of Thailand giving you access to Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao and the Anthong National Marine Park.
As well as the marine parks of Ao Phang-Nga and Koh Lanta, there are several inland national parks in the area such as the Than Bokkharani National Park, Khao Phanom Bencha National Park, Khao Nawe Choochee National Park and the Khao Chong Nature reserve to name but a few.
A part of Krabi that is often overlooked but should be mentioned here is Krabi Town, a pleasant little town and certainly a place that deserves a few days of your time, if only to relax by it's riverside and get a taste of the beaches and islands ahead. It's also one of the main areas to take boats from to further travel onto the local destinations.
