This is Wat Thum Khao Tao. Located on Khao Tao (Turtle Hill) at the south end of Suan Son beach in the very sleepy fishing village of Baan Khao Tao. Khao Tao village is also home to a large fresh water reservoir which is just next to the coast and at the base of the hill.
Thum Khao Tao is a Chinese Buddhist Temple which has been built on the side of the hill overlooking the beach and the ocean. It ia an unusual temple in that it features many man made concrete structures made to resemble natural things like trees and caves. Lots of Buddha statues and shrines are dotted about. Most notable is a very tall golden Buddha on the hillside and a Guan Yin statue at the very top of the hill facing North overlooking the beach of Kao Tao.
You can also take a walk through the temple complex, over the hill to the small lovely beach on the other side, Haad Sai Noi. It is a small sandy beach nestled between two rocky hills.
