Often described as the rose of the North, Chiang Mai is the second largest city in the Kingdom of Thailand, located 700 miles North of Bangkok. Chiang Mai also known as the 'land of the million rice fields' an old reference to the Lanna Thai Kingdom which ruled Northern Thailand during the 13th-16th centuries and who founded Chiang Mai in 1296 and flourished until invasion by the Burmese drove the Thai people South.
Over recent years Chiang Mai had had a more recent invasion, albeit a more pleasant one from holiday makers worldwide wishing to visit the historical city and beautiful province of Chiang Mai.
Chiang Mai's attraction for holiday makers is no surprise, it's scenic, peaceful and as well as excellent hotel and resort facilities it is also home to great golf courses and is becoming renowned as a world class spa destination.
What else does Chiang Mai have to offer? The list is endless, great food influenced by it's Burmese, Chinese and Laos neighbors, a shopper's paradise for those shopping for handicrafts and the more traditional Thai goods, scenic trekking, whitewater rafting and kayaking and mountain biking in Northern Thailand's mountains, meditation, cooking and massage courses, as well as sightseeing at some truly magnificent temples, and this is just a selection of what you can expect from a visit to Chiang Mai holiday.
