Bangkok > Entertainment Bangkok Entertainment
There's always some entertainment available for those otherwise quiet nights in Bangkok, whether you choose to catch the latest movie one of the many cinemas or would like to try your hand at some ten pin bowling, or for the culture vulture visit some of theatre shows.
A good place to kill a few hours of boredom, get away from the bars or even take that that first date are the upper floors of Bangkok shopping malls that all have a cinema showing the latest movies and have other entertainment such as bowling alleys, video arcades, and karaoke booths.
The Mall at Bang Kapi stretches the entertainment features a little further with a rooftop water park where you can rent swimsuits if you haven't brought your own and a fantasy park for the children. If the heat of Bangkok is getting a bit much for you then visit the largest and only full size ice skating rink in S.E.Asia on the 7th floor of the Central World Plaza.
Though much of Bangkok's drama seems to be played out on the streets of the city there are some excellent theatres in Bangkok that mainly show traditional Thai plays and dancing, many of which can also be seen whilst enjoying a meal at one of the restaurants in Bangkok that has Thai performers as well. For more contemporary arts performances then visit the Bangkok Playhouse, this modern theatre that opened in 1993 offers drama, dance and puppet shows.
A well known establishment on the Bangkok entertainment and theatre scene is the Joe Louis Theatre which is the only place in Bangkok and indeed Thailand where you can enjoy performances of Hun Lakhon Lek, which are small Thai traditional puppets that need three people to animate each one, so involved is the animation. Joe Louis is a leading name in this art, bringing this traditional puppetry art and ancient tales of Thailand and Buddhism to audiences worldwide through extensive touring. A must visit for any theatre lover in Bangkok.
